Due to popular request, I will be hosting exclusive, private bookbinding workshops, where I will teach you exactly how to rebind a paperback book where you will be working alonside me. You will leave with your own luxury handmade book in just 4 hours that you've made yourself! This workshop is to rebind Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer in advance of her visit to Bad Girl Books on Tuesday 03 November!

This class includes all the materials, tools, and the book you need to create your one-of-a-kind special edition book.

For those of you who don't know me - hi! My name is Starlin and I've recently finished fundraising to open my dream bookshop, Bad Girl Books, in Oxford. I have been bookbinding as a hobby for over 3 years and recording my progress on TikTok on my account @starlinsbookshelf, and I love the process of it as well as seeing the finished product of a handmade rebinded luxury special edition, which is so satisfying to see on your bookshelf at the end! It can feel like a daunting and overwhelming hobby to get started with on your own, so this workshop is designed as the perfect intensive beginner's guide to get you started. You will be taken step by step through the rebinding process, seeing exactly what it takes to rebind a paperback book in an easy, calm and fun environment where everyone is learning and making new friends!

Your ticket includes:

  • All the materials you need (including the book) to rebind Assistant to the Villain (book 1)
  • 10% VIP discount off everything Bad Girl Books on the day of the workshop
  • Personal shopping experience with me, Starlin, where I can give you all my favourite romantasy recs and my favourite products!
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Instrumental music, relaxed and friendly vibes, and lots of bookish chats!
  • The opportunity to meet new friends and learn a new craft together (I will create a Whatsapp Group Chat for us)
  • A full tutorial document emailed to you with all the materials and equipment you need to bookbind at home, links and a step by step instructional video
  • You will be leaving this workshop with your finished bookbinded book, ready for your bookshelf!

These workshops are a great way to meet new local bookish romantasy friends, spend some time with a lovely group of people, learn a new craft and have some fun bookish shopping in between!

Health & Safety Disclaimer:

For health and safety, as well as to be able to bookbind a book in 4 hours (a process that normally takes 30+ hours), there will be no cutting knives or cutting mats in this workshop, which you will have seen in most tutorial videos online. I will be providing pre-cut materials for the workshop, as well as some of the more time-consuming parts of the bind that are less fun such as measuring, printing, cutting and weeding vinyls, printing and cutting endpapers and making endbands. You will still be doing the majority of the bookbind including creating the book jacket, glueing the fabric to the jacket, preparing your textblock with moehl and book charms, and ironing on the vinyl covers to your jacket.
